Cardiorespiratory changes in progressive muscular dystrophy.

چکیده
Incipient cardiac failure was detected in 56 per cent of cases of pseudohypertrophic muscular dystrophy, 50per cent oflimb girdle type ofmyopathies, and2 of the 3 cases with 'unclassifled' variety. 'Myopathic pattern' in the electrocardiogram was seen in 82 per cent of the cases of pseudohypertrophic muscular dystrophy who showed abnormal haemodynamics. This suggests that this pattern is due to myocardial damage. Thus the electrocardiogram can be used as a simple and safe procedure for the detection of dystrophic heart disease. Though 'myopathic pattern' is seen only in pseudohypertrophic muscular dystrophy the haemodynamic evidence of dystrophic heart disease is seen in other myopathies as well. Pulmonary ventilatory function tests revealed restrictive changes in 57 per cent of cases of myopathy when muscles of the chest wall were involved. This abnormality in pulmonary function tests had no apparent haemodynamic effect.

Association of Limb-Girdle muscular dystrophy with multiple sclerosis: A case report
Background: The association of limb-girdle muscular dystrophy (LGMD) with other neurological disorders is uncommon. Case presentation: We report a 25-year-old female with LGMD who suffered from slowly progressive proximal muscular weakness and atrophy since she was 12 years of age. The patient recently presented with acute loss of left side visual acuity. After evaluation, findings were sugges...

Cardiorespiratory complications are frequent symptoms of Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a neuromuscular disorder caused by primary abnormalities in the dystrophin gene. Loss of cardiac dystrophin initially leads to changes in dystrophin-associated glycoproteins and subsequently triggers secondarily sarcolemmal disintegration, fibre necrosis, fibrosis, fatty tissue replacement, and interstitial in...

The extraocular muscles of dystrophic mouse strain Re-129 dy/dy were studied in combined phase and electron microscopy. Changes in fiber morphology were found which are similar to those described in dystrophic human and mouse peripheral musculature, i.e., changes in fiber diameter, alteratiotxs in the cellular organelles, including mitochondria, sarcoplasmic reticulum, nuclei, sarcolemma, and l...
متن کاملInflammatory predisposition predicts disease phenotypes in muscular dystrophy
Duchenne muscular dystrophy is an incurable genetic disease that presents with skeletal muscle weakness and chronic inflammation and is associated with early mortality. Indeed, immune cell infiltration into the skeletal muscle is a notable feature of the disease pathophysiology and is strongly associated with disease severity. Interleukin (IL)-10 regulates inflammatory immune responses by reduc...
متن کاملMyocardial metabolism in progressive muscular dystrophy.
YOCARDIAL as well as skeletal muscle lvi involvement occurs in a high proportion of cases of human progressive muscular dystrophy. This cardiac involvement constitutes a specific cardiomyopathy. Clinical evidence of myocardial involvement by the dystrophic process includes labile tachycardia in over 50 per cent of cases, congestive heart failure, various arrhythmias, cardiac murmurs, and cardio...
